5.03 SIX DEGREES OF FINAL FANTASY

For those of you unfamiliar with the concept of 'Six Degrees of Separation' let's just fill you in: the idea is that anyone can be connected to someone else via a chain of contacts, usually about six links apart. (Some of you might have played the acting version: 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon')

So we're going to play around with that idea and have ourselves an FF version! The goal here is to take any FF character and link them to another FF character in several steps. (In the interests of gameplay I'll set 3 as the minimum number of steps inbetween characters.)

You don't have to restrict yourself to using only FF characters for the steps, you can use spells, jobclasses, weapons, personality traits, hair-colours, actors, designers, games, just as long as you can use them to connect the two. Here's a little example:

Hojo ---> Doctor Odine ---> Rinoa Heartily ---> Sorceress Edea ---> Terra Branford ---> Kefka Palazzo ---> Kuja ---> Garland

(Beginning) Professor Hojo is the most notable scientist in his game
(1) Likewise Doctor Odine is the most notable scientist in his game
(2) Rinoa Heartily uses an Odine bracelet (designed by Doctor Odine) in an attempt to suppress the powers of 'the Sorceress' and is taken to see Doctor Odine when she receives Sorceress powers
(3) Rinoa received her powers from Sorceress Edea, a maternal woman blessed with magic powers forced into using her powers for cruelty against her will
(4) Terra Branford was another woman with magic powers who was controlled against her will and had an affinity for raising orphans
(5) Kefka Palazzo controlled Terra Branford for a while in events before FFVI and Dissidia [duodecium]
(6) Kefka also manipulated Kuja by altering his memories in Dissidia [duodecium] after he'd freed Terra from Kefka's mind control
(7) Kuja was created by Garland who ironically considered Kuja defective because his will was too strong to be an effective servant.

With that in mind the goal is to create 3 different chains (though additional chains can be made they won't be rewarded) using any trivial connections you can think of. Be creative and remember: HAVE FUN!

It's 10 points per chain and the max number of chains you can earn points for is 3 so there's 30 points up for grabs!

Is this supposed to be screened?

[identity profile] etsplanations.livejournal.com 2012-11-20 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Are we supposed to list the names like you did for the steps, or is this meant to be more of a guessing game?

e.g. START: Hojo END: Edea

(1) Hojo is a psychopath, and Kefka fgh;lh;df HELP ME
(2) All three used to be court mages with a jester theme at some point.
(3) Two pairs of magical twins with rhyming names.
(4) They are small and cute mages.
(5) They were prototypes for magic-fuelled mass destruction.
(6) Powerful magic users who devoted most of their lives to helping orphaned children.

Am I supposed to list all the links in between or is leaving it open-ended okay so long as it's legitimate? :)

[identity profile] etsplanations.livejournal.com 2012-11-23 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Alrighty! :) I'll post the other two, then.

START: Barret END: Lightning

(1) Their weapon of choice is the gun.
(2) These two ladies' men are voiced by the same VA.
(3) They own their own private airships, and (surprise!) neither is named Cid.
(4) They play with magical, pain-inflicting dice.
(5) Both of them wear flowing red capes in their signature outfits.
(6) After joining up with the main party, they got to battle against minions and other agents from their ex-company.

**************

Instead of start and end points, the number of letters in their names will be given.

(1) They are both named after weather phenomena. (5, 6)
(2) They both have a singular scar on their face. (6, 5)
(3) Their characters have a 'noble swordsman' theme. (5, 7)
(4) They have often questioned the common sense of the party leader, but begrudgingly follow anyway. (7, 4)
(5) They are fathers who have at some point lost both their wife and son. (4, 5)
(6) They are loud and energetic men who sport conspicuous tattoos (5, 4)

Let's try.

Freya to Paine, the FF player character version.

Freya always wears a hat, just like Vivi.
Vivi is a specialised black mage, just like Rydia.
Rydia is a woman caught in time rift, just like Lightning.
Lightning doesn't walk, she flips everywhere. Just like Tifa.
Tifa has dark red eyes. Just like Lulu.
Lulu has a unique Gothic dress style that do not fit with anyone else in Spira. Just like Paine.

***
Gysahl Green to Admantine, the FF items version.

Gysahl Green can only be used in certain locations, just like Tent.
Tent recovers HP as well as MP, just like Elixir.
Elixir is (likely) taken by mouth, just like Potion.
Potion has been marketed as a meatspace thing. Just like Perfume.
Perfume can be dismantled from Nirvana, just like Trapezohedron.
Trapezohedron is a pain in the arse to get, just like Adamantine.

***
Freelancers to Samurai, the FF class version.

Berserkers are heavy physical damagers, just like Monks.
Monks are of Wind Element, just like Black Mages.
Black Mages are MP heavy, low HP magic users, just like White Mages.
White Mages tend to go hand-in-hand with Summoners
Summoners are damn cool looking but often of rare actual use, just like Samurai
