6.11: Nonogram Puzzles
6.11: Nonogram Puzzles
I've got a pair of puzzles for you! They're called by many names including Nonograms, Griddlers, Picross, Color-by-Numbers, etc.
"Did someone say Nono, kupo?"
No, Nono, not 'Nono' -- nonograms!
Here's how they work:
The empty space is where the picture will be. The shapes/colors to the left and top of each row and column are a description of the contents of that row. Leaving out any occurrence of the background color (white in the first puzzle, black in the second puzzle), they list in order the pieces in that row/column, combining repeated squares into a single block with a number on it. For example, if there was a string of 4 pink squares, then that would show up on the left as a single pink square with a four on it.
If there was a pink-2 square followed by a pink-3 square, that means in that row/column, there's a pair of pink squares followed by a trio of pink squares, and there must be at least one blank (background-colored) space between them (or else they would not be "pink-2;pink-3" and instead just be "pink-5"). There can potentially be MORE THAN ONE blank space between them. You have to figure that out by using all the clues and what you know to be in that row.
Now, if there are two blocks of DIFFERENT types next to each other (for example, a pink-2 square and green-1 square, or a black-4 square and a black triangle) it's possible they have one or more spaces between them but it's also possible there's NO space between them (they are adjacent in the picture as well). So it's different than the above case.
The first puzzle uses triangle pieces to make the picture look prettier. You can assume all of the triangle clues have a little "1" on them. I was too lazy to put that, but none of them have a consecutive repeat going on. And again, the note above holds: they may have NO or SOME space between the next clue in the line.

You can open them in an art program and paint-bucket in the squares. Or print and scan/take a picture. One of them says Normal and the other says Hard, but having done both I think they're actually both hard.
